Supporting Grassroots Sport

We are proud to continue our commitment to supporting grassroots sport and community development through our sponsorship of the coaching team at Weston-super-Mare Rugby Football Club.

The coaching team brings together a wealth of elite rugby experience. John Bamsey made 103 appearances for Bath Rugby between 1987 and 1995, earning a reputation as a dependable player renowned for his strong defensive capabilities and powerful kicking game.

Alongside John is Darren Crompton, who also represented Bath Rugby between 1993 and 1997 before going on to play for Bristol Bears and Cardiff Blues. Darren’s distinguished playing career also included an international appearance for England against South Africa in 2007.

This highly successful coaching partnership has been instrumental in Weston-super-Mare RFC’s outstanding season. In the club’s 150th year, they secured the Regional 2 Tribute South West championship, completing an unbeaten league campaign and clinching the title with a 29–19 home victory over Crediton.

Demonstrating remarkable consistency throughout the season, Weston-super-Mare earned a try-scoring bonus point in all 22 league matches, finishing 17 points clear of their nearest rivals, Tiverton. Their achievement is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches, volunteers, and wider club community, and we are delighted to play a small part in supporting their continued success.
